Discord Formatting Combos

Discord's Markdown parser allows you to nest multiple formatting tags together. Here is how to combine strikethrough with bold, italics, underlines, and spoilers:

How to Strikethrough on iPhone & Android

Finding the tilde symbol (~) on mobile keyboards:

iPhone / iOS: Tap the 123 key in the bottom-left corner of the keyboard, then tap the #+= symbol key. The tilde (~) will appear on the second row. Tap it twice.
Android (Gboard / Samsung): Tap the ?123 key, then tap =\< to view extended symbols. Tap the tilde key twice.
Selection Menu Shortcut: In modern versions of the Discord mobile app, highlight any word you have already typed, tap the popup menu, and select Strikethrough.

Common Mistakes & Troubleshooting

Single Tilde Bug: Typing ~word~ will NOT work on Discord (that is WhatsApp syntax). You must use two tildes on each side: ~~word~~.
Spaces Next to Tildes: ~~ word ~~ will fail in many Discord client versions. Keep the tildes touching the first and last letters: ~~word~~.
Code Blocks: Text inside backticks (`code`) suppresses markdown. If you need crossed-out code in Discord, use our Unicode Strikethrough Generator instead.

Why is my Discord strikethrough not working?

Make sure you are using two tildes on BOTH sides: ~~text~~. A single tilde (~text~) will NOT cross out text in Discord. Also ensure there are no spaces immediately between the tildes and the word (use ~~word~~, not ~~ word ~~).

How do you do bold strikethrough on Discord?

Wrap your text in both asterisks and tildes: **~~your text~~**. The order does not matter as long as both sides match.

Can you strikethrough text inside Discord code blocks?

No. Markdown formatting (including strikethrough and bold) is disabled inside single backticks (`code`) and triple backtick code blocks (```code```). If you need crossed-out code, you can use our Unicode Strikethrough Generator and paste the Unicode text inside the block.
